Education Minister Visits Thanet Schools Trailblazing New Qualification

Thanetís MPs,  Laura Sandys and Sir Roger Gale, welcomed Education Minister, Elizabeth Truss MP, to Thanet to meet with students at two of the schools involved in the nationwide pilot of the new International Baccalaureate Career-related Certificate (IBBC).
Laura said “It is very exciting that Thanet is at the forefront of the IBCC pilot and the Minister was keen to visit our local schools and hear how staff and students were getting on. The students gave a fantastic presentation about their course which combines both academic and vocational elements. It was clear that the course has been very popular indeed and it was inspirational to hear from the pupils directly about how motivating an experience this has been for them. This was the very first group of students studying for the new qualification with whom the Minister had met and I am certain that she will have taken a great deal away from the visit.Ē

Sir Roger said: “Last year 100% of students at The King Ethelbert School passed the IBCC at the highest grades and it was very good to hear firsthand how much the students have gained from pursuing the qualification, both from an educational as well as a personal perspective. I am pleased that the Minister had the opportunity to meet with the staff responsible for delivering this new course as well as the students who are clearly benefiting from their studies.Ē
