ATOS/PIP – Parliamentary Questions
The following parliamentary questions, due for written answer on Tuesday 21st October and tabled by Sir Roger Gale MP (North Thanet), appear on the order paper today (Friday 17th October)

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
What estimate he has made of the number of cases awaiting individual assessments by ATOS; what estimate he has made of the waiting time between Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claims, assessment and awards being made; and what estimate he has made of the amount due in PIP awards that is outstanding”.
Commenting on his questions Sir Roger says:
“It is abundantly plain from constituency casework that PIP claimants are being subjected to inordinate delays in assessment by ATOS and awards being made and that this is resulting in real hardship.  It is absolutely right that the Secretary of State should seek to limit, in the taxpayers` interest, payments so that only those entitled to them receive them but it is absolutely wrong that the process of obfuscation, lost paperwork and delay on the part of ATOS should be allowed to prevent genuine claimants from receiving the assistance to which they are entitled. MPs need to know, so that we can advise constituents honestly and accurately, how long they may have to wait between claim and payment.”
